The Virtues of Remembering Allah

Remembering Allah (dhikr) is a fundamental practice in Islam. It holds great significance as it helps Muslims understand their purpose of life and stay connected to the Supreme Being who created them. Some of the significance of remembering Allah in Islam are:

1. It helps to reinforce the faith and belief of Muslims in Islam

2. It helps Muslims to stay connected with Allah and seek His help during difficult times.

3. It brings peace and tranquility to the heart and soul of the person remembering Allah.

4. It helps to promote humility and gratitude towards Allah.

5. It is a way to seek forgiveness for sins and to ask Allah for blessings and guidance.

6. It strengthens the relationship between humans and Allah.

7. It serves as a manifestation of trust in Allah and His will.

Remembering Allah is a cornerstone of Islamic tradition and is highly regarded as a means of attaining closeness to Allah. It is considered as a form of worship, and Muslims are encouraged to engage in regular dhikr as a way to gain blessings and rewards from Allah.

Allah said in the Quran in Sura Ahazab when talking about remembering and glorifying Him Glory to Him (Subhanahu Walaa)

٤١  يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ ذِكْرًا كَثِيرًا

41  O you who believe, remember God with frequent remembrance.

٤٢  وَسَبِّحُوهُ بُكْرَةً وَأَصِيلًا

42  And glorify Him morning and evening.

٤٣  هُوَ الَّذِي يُصَلِّي عَلَيْكُمْ وَمَلَائِكَتُهُ لِيُخْرِجَكُمْ مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ ۚ وَكَانَ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَحِيمًا

43  It is He who reaches out to you, and His angels, to bring you out of darkness into the light. And He is Ever-Merciful towards the believers.

٤٤  تَحِيَّتُهُمْ يَوْمَ يَلْقَوْنَهُ سَلَامٌ ۚ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمْ أَجْرًا كَرِيمًا

44  Their greeting on the Day they meet Him is, “Peace,” and He has prepared for them a generous reward.

Sura Ahzab Verse 41-44 Quran Kareem

Allah also says in sura Al Baqara (The Cow) about remembering Him (Subhanahu Watala, Glory belongs to him)

١٥٢  فَاذْكُرُونِي أَذْكُرْكُمْ وَاشْكُرُوا لِي وَلَا تَكْفُرُونِ

152  So remember Me, and I will remember you. And thank Me, and do not be ungrateful.

Allah says sura Ahzab about the believers of all kinds who engage in much remembrance of God will attain a great reward from Allah (God).

٣٥  إِنَّ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمَاتِ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَالْقَانِتِينَ وَالْقَانِتَاتِ وَالصَّادِقِينَ وَالصَّادِقَاتِ وَالصَّابِرِينَ وَالصَّابِرَاتِ وَالْخَاشِعِينَ وَالْخَاشِعَاتِ وَالْمُتَصَدِّقِينَ وَالْمُتَصَدِّقَاتِ وَالصَّائِمِينَ وَالصَّائِمَاتِ وَالْحَافِظِينَ فُرُوجَهُمْ وَالْحَافِظَاتِ وَالذَّاكِرِينَ اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا وَالذَّاكِرَاتِ أَعَدَّ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ مَغْفِرَةً وَأَجْرًا عَظِيمًا

35  Muslim men and Muslim women, believing men and believing women, obedient men and obedient women, truthful men and truthful women, patient men and patient women, humble men and humble women, charitable men and charitable women, fasting men and fasting women, men who guard their chastity and women who guard, men who remember God frequently and women who remember—God has prepared for them a pardon, and an immense reward.
