Reliance on Allah is a very important concept in Islam. Allah subhanahu watala loves and protects those who rely on him. One of the names of Allah is Al Wakeel. The Trustee. If we trust Allah, Allah promises to be our supporter and protector.
The following Quranic verses mention the concept of tawakul which means reliance on Allah talaa as a disposer of our affairs.
Sura Al Imran Ayah (Verse) 160
160 If God supports you, there is none who can overcome you. But if He fails you, who is there to help you after Him? So in God let the believers put their trust.
Sura Ibrahim Ayah (Verse) 11-12
11 Their messengers said to them, “We are only humans like you, but God favors whomever He wills from among His servants. We cannot possibly show you any proof, except by leave of God. In God let the faithful put their trust.”
12 “And why should we not trust in God, when He has guided us in our ways? We will persevere in the face of your persecution. And upon God the reliant should rely.”
Sura Furqan Ayah (Verse) 58
58 And put your trust in the Living, the One who never dies; and celebrate His praise. He suffices as the All-Informed Knower of the faults of His creatures.
Sura Ahzab Ayah (Verse) 3
3 And put your trust in God. God is enough as a trustee.
Sura Muzamil Ayah (Verse) 9
9 Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He, so take Him as a Trustee.
Sura Talaq Ayah (Verse) 2-3
2 Once they have reached their term, either retain them honorably, or separate from them honorably. And call to witness two just people from among you, and give upright testimony for God. By that is exhorted whoever believes in God and the Last Day. And whoever fears God—He will make a way out for him.
3 And will provide for him from where he never expected. Whoever relies on God—He will suffice him. God will accomplish His purpose. God has set a measure to all things.
Hadith on reliance:
Anas ibn Malik reported:
A man said, “O Messenger of Allah, should I tie my camel and trust in Allah, or should I leave her untied and trust in Allah?” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Tie her and trust in Allah.”
