Dawud (David) was a prophet and king in the Islamic tradition, believed to have lived during the 10th century BCE. He is mentioned in the Quran and also in various Islamic traditions. According to Islamic belief, Allah granted Dawud wisdom, courage, and strength, which allowed him to become a powerful king and a successful warrior. He was also gifted with an incredible singing voice and is said to have written many of the Psalms. One of the most famous stories about Dawud is his victory over the giant warrior Goliath (Jalut). Dawud slew Jalut with a single stone from his slingshot and became a hero among the people. Dawud is also credited with establishing the city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and building the first temple there. He is considered by Muslims to be a prophet of great importance and an exemplary leader for all to follow.
The following Quranic verses mention the story of Prophet Dawud (David) peace be upon him.
