Everything belongs to Allah (God)

As Muslims, we believe that everything in this world belongs to Allah (SWT). From the tiniest blade of grass to the grandest of mountains, from the drop of rain to the vastness of the oceans, everything is the creation of Allah (SWT) and belongs to Him. Allah (SWT) reminds us throughout the Quran that He is the owner of everything in the universe. In Surah Al-An’am, Allah (SWT) says, “It is He who created the heavens and the earth, and whatever is between them in six days, and then established Himself above the Throne – you have no other Lord beside Him – do you not then remember?” (Quran 32:4). Moreover, we are reminded in Surah Al-Baqarah, “To Allah belongs the East and the West; whithersoever you turn, there is the face of Allah; surely Allah is All-embracing, All-knowing” (Quran 2:115). Allah (SWT) is the owner of every place, every direction you turn towards. He is the Most Powerful and the Most High, and everything is under His control. One of the benefits of acknowledging that everything belongs to Allah (SWT) is that it softens our hearts and reminds us of our place in the grand scheme of things. We are here in this world as temporary visitors, and our belongings are just entrusted to us by Allah (SWT). When we realize that everything we have belongs to Allah (SWT), we become more mindful of our responsibilities towards His creation. As Muslims, we must appreciate the blessings that Allah (SWT) has bestowed upon us. However, we must also be careful not to be attached to the materialistic aspects of the world. We must always remember that material possessions are temporary and we can’t take them with us to the hereafter. We must use our resources in the way that pleases Allah (SWT) by being charitable, helping the poor, establishing prayer, and fulfilling our other obligations towards our Creator. When we do this, we are using His blessings in the right way and in sha Allah, we will achieve the ultimate reward in the hereafter. In conclusion, understanding and acknowledging that everything belongs to Allah (SWT) is vital in our spiritual journey as Muslims. It reminds us of our responsibilities as His creations and helps us act in a manner that pleases Him. May Allah (SWT) guide us on the straight path and help us to use His blessings in a way that pleases Him.  Ameen.

The following Quranic verses mention the fact that everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah.

Sura Al Baqara Ayah (Verse) 255

255  God! There is no god except He, the Living, the Everlasting. Neither slumber overtakes Him, nor sleep. To Him belongs everything in the heavens and everything on earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His permission? He knows what is before them, and what is behind them; and they cannot grasp any of His knowledge, except as He wills. His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation does not burden Him. He is the Most High, the Great.

Sura Al Baqara Ayah (Verse) 284

284  To God belongs everything in the heavens and the earth. Whether you reveal what is within your selves, or conceal it, God will call you to account for it. He forgives whom He wills, and He punishes whom He wills. God is Able to do all things.

Sura Al Imran (Verse) 109 and 129

109  To God belongs everything in the heavens and everything on earth, and to God all events are referred.

129  To God belongs everything in the heavens and the earth. He forgives whom He wills, and He punishes whom He wills. God is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Sura Nisa Ayah (Verse) 171

171  O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion, and do not say about God except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, is the Messenger of God, and His Word that He conveyed to Mary, and a Spirit from Him. So believe in God and His messengers, and do not say, “Three.” Refrain—it is better for you. God is only one God. Glory be to Him—that He should have a son. To Him belongs everything in the heavens and the earth, and God is a sufficient Protector.

Sura Yunus Ayah (Verse) 55 and 66

31  To God belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. He will repay those who do evil according to their deeds, and recompense those who do good with the best.
